4 Things That Increase the Cost of New Epoxy Floors

Here are 4 things that always make a new epoxy garage floor cost more. The increase in price can be slight or substantial. Those 4 things are:
PictureYou can see, finishing the stem wall, to match the floor, really makes a garage look great!
1.  STEM WALL - Stem wall is the vertical unfinished block or cement at the base of your garage perimeter walls. The more stem wall area you have, the more the additional cost. If your walls are finished down to the floor surface with no stem wall, you just saved a couple hundred dollars at least. This reason for the additional cost to you is that stem walls must be "primed" which addis an additional step that increases the install time and expense for us.

2. PRE-EXISTING COATING - There is an additional cost to remove any existing coating. The reason being is that some coating are difficult to remove and grinding is extremely difficult. Since we grind every square inch of every floor we build and the fact that we do not use acid prep, we charge an additional .50 to .75 a sf to remove those coatings. The reason for the added expense is that coating on a floor often doubles or triples the grinding time.

This coating is an "box kit" floor that was a DIY project. They simply do not last.

All existing cracks and holes must be repaired. Our crew has advanced training in crack repair.
3.  EXTENSIVE CRACKING - If you have minimum cracking amounting to less than 15 feet, there is no additional charge. But, if you have numerous deep and wide cracks, you can expect to pay from $100 to $200 to have the cracks. repaired. Our crew will repair all cracks and holes before they build your new floor. This is crucial to building you a beautiful, seamless, and wall-to-wall floor. The reason for the added cost is the time and chemical expense it takes to repair extensive cracking.
4.  STEPS - There is a slight additional charge if you have cement steps that you want covered. We only charge for the vertical areas for the steps because the tops of the steps are included in the area of the square footage of your garage. The reason for the additional charge is because all steps have to hand grinded.

Finishing your steps to the same finish as your garage floor really makes the space look great. The steps must be concrete.
In closing, I must say that rarely have these combined expense added more than $300 to $500 to a floors cost. The only way to know the exact cost is to have an onsite, free, no obligation, estimate done. This estime will give you the exact cost you can expect to pay. These estimates are valid for 6 months. It really helped when you explained that having an existing coating has to be removed at a cost. I will keep that in mind and ask about it when I look for professionals to hire for the house that I bought in Dallas, Texas. I wanted it to have new garage floor coatings to ensure that they can last for a long time, especially when I have two cars. And one of these vehicles is quite heavy, because it is a semi-truck.
