Lifetime Epoxy Floors: Stained Concrete Floors and Decorative Concrete

Attention Huntsville Metro and Madison County Home and business owners! Acid stained floors are simply extraordinary flooring alternatives if you are tired of carpet, tile and wood flooring. Acid stained floors offer warm earthy tones or vibrant hues, there are simply unlimited color options and your contractor can even do custom colors. Lifetime Epoxy is one of the most trusted names in Concrete Staining Services in North Alabama.

All concrete surfaces can be stained inside or outside new or existing concrete. The process usually takes about two days start to finish but the results are incredible. If you are thinking about having stained floors there are some simple precautions that should be taken in order to save you money and to assure you that your floor will turn out properly.

New concrete should be covered with plastic to protect it from stains from other trades such as painters plumbers etc... all stains on any concrete surface have to be removed before staining can take place and this can be an added expense to having your floor done. Acid stains are translucent and may not take stain in areas that have previous stains on them such as paint. Rule of thumb is that if you know you are going to have an acid stained floor then you should cover it if possible.

If you have old concrete that has a lot of stains then there are other options such as micro toppings. A micro topping is a new concrete surface that is applied from paper thin up to 1" thick. Micro toppings can be used to fill imperfections in the surface Micro toppings can also be used for different affects such as a rock texture, slate texture, spray textures etc... and micro toppings can be stained.

A few years ago I started playing around with micro toppings on other surfacessuch as plywood, tile and marble. We have come up with a way to put a micro topping over plywood in the interior section of our home that does not have a concrete surface. The result of our new technique is a allergen free and easy to clean surface with vibrant colors and earthy tones. This technique can also be applied over tile as long as the tile is not coming loose. This saves the consumer the cost of tear out and disposal of other flooring products.
Another option that is hitting the flooring market pretty hard right now is metallic epoxy, if you are looking for a real neat effect in a one of a kind floor look at the metallic epoxy. Metallic epoxy is a coating it starts with a prime coat of 100% solids epoxy and then the metallic epoxy is applied a day later. There are different effects that can be achieved with metallic epoxy such as spraying denatured alcohol, or acetone on top of the metallic epoxy when it is wet to achieve a mottled look. Use a leaf blower to blow the epoxy around to achieve a rippled look. These techniques should only be done by trained professionals as you can also ruin a floor if not done properly. When done properly metallic epoxy has a strong look of an acid stained floor.

Maintenance on a acid stained floor is simply done with micro fiber mops, or a mild detergent such as simple green. Do not use any cleaners that are abrasive. If your floor should start to look dull a simple coat of a mop on wax such as uro finish from colormaker floors can be applied to renew the shine and it will make that floor look new again.

Any new business in Huntsville and Madison has concerns on how to lay out the design of their showroom, warehouse or offices. The base concrete floor is already there, so why not dress that up? Many new businesses are turning to an attractive, durable and low maintenance selection of epoxy flooring. Lifetime Epoxy is the most trusted name in commercial epoxy flooring in North Alabama.

Many options for flooring will come up including carpet, tile, hardwood, laminate, linoleum, marble, concrete and other types. Anything can be done to differentiate from one business to another, but the benefits must coincide with the attractiveness. Carpet will attract dirt and dust, tile can break easy, hardwood and marble flooring is expensive and laminate can look too cheap.

Epoxy flooring for businesses has many advantages. One is that an epoxy floor will repel water, dirt, dust, chemicals and any other type of stain that carpet will soak in. Carpet stains easily and traps dust and dirt within. Tile repels most stains and dirt, but is very brittle and can chip easily. Hardwood floors are expensive and can be easily damaged by water. Marble is beautiful, but much more expensive than decorated concrete.

Epoxy resins are used in a number of applications for construction from floors to counter tops. It has become very popular in the past few years due to it's durability and appeal. It's very easy to apply and has virtually no maintenance.

Applying epoxy to a desired surface is fairly easy. The intended area for the application must be cleaned. The next step is to etch the concrete with chemicals designed for epoxy flooring. A base color (as in a garage floor) is applied first, as the epoxy is usually clear. This base is as easy as painting on wall paint (be sure to cut in the corners). If desired, flakes or other fillers can be added for color and style. After the base coat has dried, it is time to roll on the epoxy resins. The epoxy can be dyed different colors to match the owners desires. The entire process can be completed usually within 48 hours, with no messy carpet strands, sawdust, glue or waster material to clean up.

Picture
Epoxy floors can withstand high pressure and weight. This is ideal for warehouses, garages, industrial plants and other high traffic areas. Especially those businesses with forklifts and heavy machinery being used in the plant or factory. Depending upon the mix and style of epoxy, the durable finished product can withstand between 800-4000 psi.

If your business is considering floor plans for new design, or wanting to renovate the old style, epoxy floors can be very beneficial to your plans. There are many different flooring companies specializing in the applications of epoxy resins. If your business is interested in getting a quote or finding a contractor, visit Commercial Decorative Concrete Contractor [http://www.decorative-concrete.biz]. Lifetime Epoxy Floors: How Polyaspartics and Polyureas Are Revolutionizing Industrial Flooring

7/19/2020

Picture
By  Lifetime Epoxy's Expert Guest Author: Edward Winslow

Lifetime Epoxy installs polyaspartic materials in most residential garages. It is important for you to know why polyaspartic is the best choice for your home garage. Polyureas and Polyaspartics were originally developed for coating steel to prevent corrosion. The outstanding qualities of such as a fast cure and durability led to experimenting for use on concrete industrial flooring.

What Are Polyaspartic and Polyurea Coatings?

Simply they are an advanced version of concrete floor paint. They are a two component product that are mixed together prior to application and are rolled on the surface. They come in clear but are usually pigmented with gray or tan but any color can be created. Vinyl colored chips can be broadcast into the surface while wet. Either a full broadcast can be applied which looks like a terrazzo finish or chips can be lightly sprinkled to give a little more character.

Benefits of Polyureas Over Epoxy Coatings

1. Rapid Cure - Polyureas can dry in an hour so multiple coats can be applied in a day. For businesses that cannot allow for downtime this solves a big problem. An example is a company that can only allow for downtime over a weekend. With the right surface prep equipment the concrete can be ground smooth over a Friday night, cracks and spalling fixed the next morning with two coats applied on a Saturday, two on Sunday and in service for Monday morning.

2. Adhesion To Concrete - Polyureas have the unique ability to "wet" into concrete. This means they absorb into the concrete after the surface is ground smooth with industrial floor grinding equipment, diamond blades and a dustless vacuum system. The benefit is that the polyureas cure as part of the concrete rather than sticking to the surface like an epoxy. This substantially alleviates risk of delamination. Highly skilled professionals will test the density of the concrete and adjust the"wetting" for a particular surface.

3. Cold Weather Application - It has been reported that polyureas can be applied at below zero temperatures. Though few would attempt in extreme cold a coating can be applied on a cold concrete floor. This means projects can completed year round.

How Polyaspartic and Poyurea Coatings are Applied

1. Grinding The Concrete Surface - This requires specialized equipment, diamond blades and a dustless vacuum system. The applicator will adjust the speed of the diamonds which circulate over the surface grinding the top layer of the concrete. This creates a lot of dust which is contained in specialized high power vacuum systems. The grinding process removes the highs and lows in the surface creating a flat floor.

2. Crack Repair - Because polyureas can be thinned, they can fill a crack all the way to the bottom about 4 inches. Most crack fillers only fill what you can see and really just serve as a bridge in the crack penetrating 1/4" to one inch. The most effective crack repair will flow to the bottom, cure below the surface and "wet" into the wall of the crack with flexibility. Polyureas do it all. They block moisture vapor pressure that can delaminate a coating.

3. Application of Polyurea Industrial Flooring - Once the surface is ground smooth and flat the coatings are rolled on the surface. Since the floor was ground smooth the coatings are applied at an even depth throughout the floor.

4. Rapid Cure and Fast Return To Service - In new construction or remodels a fast coating application is a money saver. Most coatings take a week to apply and cure. With the proper surface preparation equipment and manpower a 10,000 square foot floor can be applied in 3 days and used on the fourth. It is even possible to complete larger floors with enough equipment.

Slip Resistance, Recoat, Durability and Ease of Maintenance

An advanced professional will use a specific size non slip aggregate in each coating layer. Aggregate size is critical to function. Too large and it will sink to the bottom of the bucket during mixing. Too small and it will be lost in the mix and become ineffective. Building the right size into each layer ensures slip resistance above the legal standards for the life of the floor.

Floors will wear from use. Excessive wear will require a recoat and not all coatings can be recoated. Most will require complete removal with excessive wear. Polyureas on the contrary can be lightly sanded and resurfaced to look and perform like new. Again a feature that outperforms other systems.

Polyasparics and polyureas are extremely durable like epoxies while being easier to maintain. Epoxies and polyureas will get scratched. The difference is that a scratch in epoxies gets frayed, trapping dirt and bacteria. Polyureas get a straight scratch which means routine cleaning removes dirt and bacteria while prolonging life of the floor.

Alabama Industrial Flooring: Which Are the Real Advantages of Industrial Floor Coatings?

7/5/2020

By  Lifetime Epoxy Expert Guest Author: James Mcgillvray

Attention Alabama industrial floor maintenance supervisors. As you know, concrete floors are porous surfaces which rapidly create dust, retain stains and are prone to cracking because of the wear of daily use. In an industrial environment, those weaknesses increase exponentially, creating potential perils for workers and users of these floors. Unless protected by the adequate coating materials, industrial floors not only become unsafe, but also deteriorate at a much faster rate. Lifetime Epoxy of Boaz Alabama specializes in industrial loor floor coatings up to 30,000 sf.

The main advantage of industrial coatings is the general improvement of the floor condition and life cycle: they strengthen the floor surface, increase its resistance to abrasion, wear and chemicals, improve its appearance and ambience, and contribute to make it safer, delaminating hazard and danger areas, marking out guidance to fire exits or offering anti-slip protection. All of these features are of particular importance for commercial and leisure industries, where floors and facilities are open to the general public.

Other industries may also need anti-slip coating for their floors, along with other features avail
able for industrial floor coatings such as resistance to extreme temperatures, pressure or chemical wash, high hygiene standards, dust-free preparation and easy maintenance, as seen in the case of food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. As advised by professionals on industrial flooring in London, each type of industry has particular needs regarding the specific wear conditions their floors have to be able to endure; therefore, choosing the adequate material is essential to ensure the best performance and the lowest life cycle cost.

Making the most of industrial floor coatings means choosing materials specially designed and engineered to withstand the particular abuse each type of industrial floor is subject to, be it chemical exposure, abrasion, impact or thermal shock. Apart from these four elements, there are other important aspects to consider when deciding on a certain coating material. Epoxy, for example, provides a tough, protective and very hard coating, with the additional advantages of being easy to clean and maintain, allowing to create differentiated areas with color and texture, being non-toxic and safe for the environment or providing anti-slip protection for workers and general users.

Coatings bonded directly to the surface of the concrete floor, such as Epoxy coatings, offer a long term protection, most of them including also an aesthetic value, very useful to certain industries. For the automotive industry, for example, Epoxy coatings offer a hard wearing, easy to clean solution with a high degree of slip resistance in greasy and wet environments, and the additional value of a decorative feature to reflect the colors of a corporate branding.

Offering high strength and resistance, hygiene and resin floor coating features, industrial floor coatings help businesses maintaining the highest safety standards

Attention Huntsville Metro Homeowners! The Garage floor is one of the most significant areas that is ignored frequently. If you are a car lover, surely you wish to do all the care by yourself whether it is changing the oil or it is maintenance. You love to spend your time in garage. If you set up a few variety of garage flooring system, then it can have lots of benefits for a full time mechanic or a weekend combatant.

Even though, concrete is strong and durable but it can create a number of harsh tribulations. Usually, the main flooring material that found in most of the garage is concrete. If you stand on the concrete for long periods of time then it may affect your health and create several health related problem such as knee pain, backside pain and skeletal problems etc. On the other hand, when a concrete floor gets wet then it can be extremely smooth. It does not matter from where the liquid is coming in- it can be a vehicle liquid or it can be the water coming from drenched off your automobile.

If you have made a plan to install a few varieties of garage coatings than it will add value to your garage. Once you have decided, you end up with a lot of decisions to think upon, that will facilitate you to decide what kind of floor coatings you will utilize. First you have to think, for what purpose you are using your garage. Because, if you are the one who is just using garage for car parking and you have the habit if changing oil for each 3000 miles than you have to go only for the normal garage coating or normal solution.
Standard duty solutions are fairly hard-wearing for the garage, which is being used on average basis. Heavy duty systems of garage coating are the best solution for them who go for car repairing or renovating on a continuing basis, therefore they have to focus on such system.

These types of floor coating will provide longer life for the garage, if the floor is being utilized on continuous basis intended for heavy maintenance work. Next thing you need to decide about the garage coating is, whether you wish to make it colorful or without color. When you have made a decision and you are interested only in a normal garage floor coating which is not colorful then you can search out a colorless floor coating.

The floor coating which comes without color will do well with the garage floor and it will also look after the garage flooring from beam leaks as well as other wear and tear. But most of the people are opting to include color because the added color will increase the resale value and the resale value is directly can be added to your home. It looks cool and attractive if you have a garage floor which is coated by colorful garage floor coating.

Attention Huntsville and Madison pool owners! Pool decking is not just for placing a trim around your pool. It is a place of leisure where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful summer day. You can have decking built around your above ground pool just as you can with your inground pool. With inground swimming pools, the decking tends to be part of the pool installation process, but the decking for above ground pools can be added afterwards. Pool decking needs to be smooth and not be hot to the feet during the hot summer days.
Lifetime Epoxy Floors has the perfect solution to your pool deck problem, its call Elasti-deck.

No matter what design you opt to have for your inground pool decking, you do need to make sure that it is slip resistant. In order to have wood decking of this nature, you have to add coarse material to the paint or stain and this makes the pool decking hard to walk on in bare feet. Composite swimming pool decking is the ideal solution for a swimming pool because it is slip resistant and it won't rot or decay from continued exposure to water and humidity.

You can use wood, composite, tiles, stone or concrete as the material for pool decking. There are many textures and designs you can get in all these decking materials both for inground pool decking and for above ground pools. With above ground pools, the swimming pool decking usually includes stairs and you can either have the deck built so that it just gives access to the swimming pool or you can have it all the way around. Aluminum is a popular choice in decking for above ground pools and there are many kits you can buy that include everything you need.

When you have a swimming pool in your backyard, you don't want to spend time each spring refinishing the decking. With the plastic, vinyl and aluminum pool decking on the market, once you install it, you never have to touch it again. The most maintenance you will have to do with this swimming pool decking is to wash it off occasionally to keep it clean. It won't rot or decay and you will never have to deal with an insect infestation. There is no danger to small children because of any chemicals used in the manufacturing process of composite inground pool decking.

You can have pool decking that matches the color of your house or simulate the look of real wood. Either one will add atmosphere to your backyard and increase the value of your home immensely. When you see the many different styles of pool decking available, you may have a hard time deciding exactly which one you want to have.

Alabama Industrial Floor Coatings and Safety Factors

4/19/2020

By  Lifetime Epoxy's Expert Guest Allen Cole

Attention Alabama Industrial and Manufacturing facility managers. Industrial coatings and safety are a vital component in most Alabama industrial processes. Industrial coating is a certain paint application on steel and other concrete derivatives for protection purposes against cases of corrosion. This is required in every industrial process to avoid accumulated rust on the metal surfaces of the machines used in the processes.

The aesthetic and protective properties present in industrial coatings made them highly resistant to corrosion. The coating itself is a vigorously-made amalgamation of various chemical substances that include reinforcing thermoset polyimide, xylan-dry film lubricants, xylene, ethyl acetate, polyimide binder resins, and many more. Though industrial coatings are used mainly to fight off corrosion, there are also other important uses as well. This includes Intumescent coating used for purposes of resisting fire. Coatings can also come from various polymer materials (polyurethane, epoxy, moisture cure urethane, etc).

Both concrete and steel materials used in industrial facilities are protected with such coatings. Manufacturing plants, units, warehouses, welding and construction sites, including various storage facility types cannot be fully functional without the coatings as these also represent safety features within the production.
Workers can have a peace of mind knowing they are safe from debris and rust accumulation that can be dangerous to their health. The protective layer offered by this is their main defense against all forms of dangerous dust and debris. Safety from such materials remains a priority. Coatings can last in the long run before surface materials needed new application.

If you own a manufacturing unit, you are already aware how it cuts down the risks of surface damage that will lead to safety concerns of course. With it, you can be sure that your machinery and other systems are working in perfect conditions and totally safe from the corrosive effects of water, air, and other substances that comes into contact with the surfaces. You need this to avoid machine breakdowns and other damages that will affect production and output.

Larger machinery pieces are normally vulnerable to damage, especially if they must be moved around. You can lengthen the shelf life of your expensive machinery pieces with anti-corrosion and make sure they are working in good order to promote both efficiency and safety.

As mentioned above, the coating is among your best protection against corrosion and cases of fire outbreaks. Consider it the most effortless and inexpensive fire protection measure you can have. Always remember that industrial coatings and safety are always synonymous.

Huntsville Industrial Floors: Some Things You Need To Know About Warehouse Floor Coatings

4/14/2020

By  Guest Expert Author: Megan Ghan

In Huntsville and North Alabama, when talking about floors in warehouses, floor flatness or floor levelness is not the only thing to consider. There is actually a bundle to think about, and what we will tackle here is just one of them: the right material for warehouse floor coating. Lifetime Epoxy Industrial Floor is Huntsville's most trusted name in Industrial Floor Coatings.

If you are wondering about what exactly is the appropriate floor coating for warehouse floors, you are not alone. There are actually a number of people who have the same question as you do. It is a hot subject of advertisements in trade journals, which offer various coatings that all promise optimal performance in all kinds of conditions. Every one also claims to have the best price offers in the industry.

Most warehouse managers actually waste a lot of time and money believing these advertisements. Without knowing the exact qualities to look for, they purchase floor coatings depending on how convincing the promises in the advertisements are. Basing their judgement on what the advertisements are saying, they believe that the only quality to look for in floor coating products is its excellent appearance. They also purchase such product if it promises professional application and performance warranty. What they fail to see is that they have to choose a floor coating on the basis of its suitability to the job at hand.

If you want a floor coating that will work on your needs, you have to first determine the kinds of stresses the coating is expected to handle. You must also pinpoint the nature of the warehouse materials. Are there reagent chemicals, specialty chemicals, corrosive liquids and solvents? Inventory the chemical substances stored in the warehouse. These chemical substances can damage warehouse floors when they come in contact and can affect its floor flatness. Therefore, you need a floor finish that can withstand potential chemical spills.

The coating on the floor should also enhance the appearance of the floor. It has to produce a lustre with regular cleaning. But regular cleaning can also damage floor coatings from constant friction with cleaning materials. A good coating on floors can withstand the rigors of cleaning. It should not chip, discolour, and undo wear.

Most of all, good floor coatings must retain their vital properties after years of use. Routine maintenance like cleaning, scrubbing, power-sweeping, and such can damage the floor finish unless it is designed to endure this kind of treatment.

Industrial floor finishes are supported by several resin systems that have their own strengths and weaknesses. Apart from epoxy, other resin systems are:

There is the virtually indestructible resin system, polyester, which can perform well but can be extremely expensive. It also demands up-to-the-point surface preparation before it can be applied.
There is also polyurethane, a very durable and good-looking finish. It is usually tailored with acrylic resin to attain color retention and a superior shine. It entails a primer coat for adhesion and is more costly than epoxy.

With these given information, you can go to consultations with floor coating businesses knowing what questions to ask them. You can try to know the level of quality and workmanship of coating suppliers by going online and looking for feedback from previous clients. You can also know online the track record and reputation of the floor coating companies to talk with.
For nearly 100 years we have been directly associated with leading products, processes, and service in the concrete flooring industry.

Alabama Industrial Floor Coatings: Its a Fact,  Industrial Floor Coatings Make an Impact

4/10/2020

By Guest Author:  Clarke Patrick

Alabama industry relies strongly on industrial floor coatings to protect and make plant and wwarehouses safer. There are many reasons why industrial floor coatings are going to be used in several different businesses. They are great for protecting from many things. They are also going to give the floor a nice shine and make it look extraordinary.

There are many kinds of Alabama industries. Some of them are going to be using chemicals, oils and a lot of water. When using these things, it is important to have something that is going to protect the flooring.
Cement floors are easily broken down by water. Water is one of the worst things that can be left on cement. Chemicals and oils are also bad for it.

There are many Alabama factories that are using oils in their production processes. This can stain the cement if it has gotten on there. Putting the epoxy surface over the top of this will protect it from damage as well as stains.

There are many places that do not get this done and end up replacing the entire floor. This can be a big job. It is not a fun job to do either. They do not realize how quickly these substances are able to eat up the cement.

When people are going to make a decision on the surface of the floor, they are going to want to look into all of their options. They need to be able to get a good solid surface so that they can make sure that it is going to be durable as well as look good.

Nobody wants to have anything that is looking horrible. When the floors break down, they look bad. They can also cause dangerous situations because it can make it uneven and cause people to trip.
If they fall in the wrong place, it can be deadly. There are machines running at all times in factories. Nobody wants to fall into one of these and get hurt.

There are different colors that are available for the surface too. They can be very decorative or just clear. Everybody is going to choose something different.

Many businesses will be looking at what is most economical. Stores may be looking at what the customers would feel good about seeing. They may add some style to it.

Everybody is going to have a different option that they are going to be using this type of surface for. They will be able to change it occasionally also. In places that there is a lot of traffic, they will have to be recoating after some time. It is normal for it to show wear in higher traffic areas.

They will also get scratched up and damaged when people are not careful how fork lifts are being driven or skids are being set down. This could cause large scratches in the floor. It is difficult to protect the surface from every possible danger. In this case, the cement will not be damaged because the surface is going to take the damage. This is not only for a store or a factory either. They can be used in auto repair shops and many other places. Some people will prefer to put this in the garage at home too. If their car leaks oil, it will not stain it this way.

Once cement is stained, it is almost impossible to get it out of it. Some people will try painting over the top of it which does not work because the paint does not stick well where the oil is.
